Mila's Penny

The other day I was in the laundry room sorting laundry and Mila comes is an says, "Dollar."  (Opening her mouth and pointing.)  I didn't think anything of it, and when I come out of the laundry room there are coins on the floor in the loft.  I asked her if she got in to Leah's money and she says, "Dollar" and then opens her mouth.  I said, Did you put one in your mouth? And she says, "Uh-huh."  I said, Where is it? And she says, "Belly".  I said, Mila... Did you swallow it?  Again, she opens her mouth and says, "Dollar".  I didn't know what to do...  So I googled it.  Most of the postings said that it would just pass on its own, but then I read one that a young boy actually died from swallowing a penny because it got stuck and caused an infection.  After reading that, I didn't want to be responsible if something went wrong, so I took her to Urgent Care.

I told them she said she swallowed a coin, but I'm not sure that she did.

Well, here's the X-ray and sure enough...

She did.
The doctor said that it was already past the stomach and looked to be on the right track.  He just suggested to feed her a high fiber diet with lots of liquids and it should pass on its own.  He was glad that I had brought her in, because if it had gone into her lungs, or had gotten lodged it would have been pretty serious.  He said that if she hadn't passed it within two days to bring her back in and they would do another X-ray.

Well, a couple of days later...Jason hit the jackpot.  She is now penny free...and has a great story to tell.  And no, we didn't save it.
