Another Project Checked off the List

This weekend we were finally able to finish Carter's room. 

Jason put his chair rail up.  I filled the holes, sanded it, and painted it while my mom made the curtains.

I also got the plug put in behind the stove so I don't have to have the ugly extension cord going across the counter top.

I'm so grateful for a handy husband!  Also a big thanks to my mom for her fabulous sewing skills!  It is her fault that I don't know how to sew though...she would rather do it herself than find some patience to teach me when I was younger.

Visit from Fox 10 News

The kids were really excited that Cory McCloskey with Fox 10 News was going to be coming to their school today for Whirlybird Wednesday.  

Leah even called both Grandma's yesterday to tell them, "Make sure you watch Fox 10 News because they're coming to my school."

Well, this morning Leah woke up with pink eye and couldn't even go for all of the fun.  She was so bummed, so I decided to take her and Mila to the school so they could at least see the helicopter land.

We were standing right in front of where they landed and got blasted with the dead grass.  I wish I would have thought to take a picture of the girls covered in grass.  It was pretty funny.

This is the Power Ranch Panther and Mila was deathly afraid of it.  When she even thought it was coming in our direction she would hold on to my leg really tight and start whining. 

Afterwards we headed to the doctor to get antibiotics.  She does have pink eye and will be out of school again tomorrow.  I know she doesn't feel well, but I know she's looking forward to staying home tomorrow too.

The Start of the Kitchen Remodel

When we moved into our house the two things that I absolutely hated were the counter tops and the kitchen sink.  No matter how much you cleaned and scrubbed they always looked dirty.  Well this week my wishes came true.  I got new counter tops, a new sink and faucet, and we got the reverse osmosis cleaned and running.  I am so LOVING it!

Now I can't wait to start the other projects that we are going to do.

We're makin' progress

Mila has been COMPLETELY potty trained for two weeks now with no accidents; AND she doesn't have a ba ba anymore!  When we ran out of bottle liners I just told her that the store doesn't sell them anymore and she seemed to accept that.  I offered her a sippy cup with milk, but that didn't go so well.  She will only drink sippy cups with water and has not had milk or a nap since.  I figured that's why I was getting such good naps out of her everyday.  She was looking forward to a bottle and a passy, and would almost beg for nap time especially if we weren't home.

Well, yesterday I was on the phone with Jason and Mila says, "I wanna talk, I wanna talk."  So I gave her the phone. In her nicest soft voice; she says, "Can you buy me some liners for my ba ba's?"

I know she really misses that comfort, but she's doing good.

Now if we can just lose the ONE passy we have left...

She only has it for bedtime, and makes sure she puts it in the same spot every morning so she knows where to find it.

Ride home from school

Carter has been having trouble with a kid that rides his bike home from school the same way that he does.  He's older and tends to use a vocabulary that we do not use at our house.  Well Carter didn't know what any of those words meant so he was repeating them to other kids as they rode home.  Luckily a neighbor boy knew to tell his mom what Carter had been saying.  That afternoon I got a text to talk to Carter about some words he was saying on the way home from school.  When I asked Carter about it, he said that he was saying those words, but didn't know they were bad, and didn't know what they meant.

How do you teach a kid what words are bad?  Do you make them a list, give it to them, and then tell them not to say these words?  I guess you can say I'm learning how to parent...

Well today my friend calls me and says that her boys were still laughing at something Carter did after school today, so she thought she would call to let me know.  She said that when the boys were on their way home from school they passed by the kid that says the naughty words; and Carter turns his head in the opposite direction of him and says in a really deep voice; "Silas, this is God speaking...You need to quit cussing." and then rides off.  The other boys said that Silas just looked around and didn't know who said it.

I know Carter learned a lesson from this, and maybe Silas will think he really heard God.

Skateland

Yesterday we went to Skateland to celebrate Callie's Birthday.  I knew that Carter would really enjoy it, but I wasn't sure about Mila and Leah.  

When I came back with their skates they were really excited to put them on and go.  They quickly realized that it LOOKED a lot easier than it was!

She couldn't get those skates off fast enough!

Leah had a melt down too.

They had these supports that the kids could hang on to while they skated to help keep them up.  I guess they were really fun until you had skates on your feet.

She couldn't understand why she couldn't do it like everyone else, and didn't even want to try once she knew she couldn't.

Carter, on-the-other-hand, had a BLAST!

He had to exchange his skates for roller blades, because skates just weren't cool.

He really is pretty talented with almost anything that he tries.  

Hopefully we didn't scar the girls for life, and they'll try it again when they're older...

Just the beginning

I joined Coupon Sense last week and today was my first shopping trip using coupons.  OH MY!  

I saved 81% on my groceries!  I walked out the door buying all of this for only $16.60.  As I was walking away, the guy behind me tells the cashier, "I'll have that same deal."  I was so proud of myself.

I didn't even have all of the coupons that I needed because I'm just starting my collection.  Going forward this is only going to get better.  I know this doesn't cover all of our everyday essentials, but over time I hope to be able to stock pile and have most of the everyday essentials on hand.

Now I'm even more excited for next time!  This is SO worth it!

Playing with Scissors

The other day I found Mila with a pair of scissors.  I asked her what she was doing with them and she said, "Nothing."

This is the back of her pajamas.  I don't think she did anything either...

She is way into pajamas.  Most of the time she wants to wear Leah's old pajamas that are too big for her, so I cut the sleeves and legs shorter.  I guess she thought she could do it herself.
